Shantu Larma meets Jalil over issue of indigenous candidates

President of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) Jyotirindra Bodhipriyo Larma alias Shantu Larma yesterday discussed with Awami League General Secretary Abdul Jalil the issue of nominating indigenous candidates for the forthcoming election from several constituencies where most indigenous people live.
Shantu Larma said PCJSS has already announced the names of candidates for Rangamati and Bandarban constituencies and that he had discussed it with Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.
He told Jalil, also the coordinator of 14-party alliance, to consider the nomination of indigenous candidates for Naogaon-1 and Dinajpur-6 constituencies.
Jalil said the issue of indigenous candidates could be discussed in due course.
There are over 60,000 indigenous voters in Naogaon-1 and over 80,000 indigenous voters in Dinajpur-6.
Pankaj Bhattacharya, Sanjeeb Drong, Rabindranath Soren, Anil Marandi, Shaktipada Tripura and Shaktiman Chakma were present at the meeting held at the residence of Abdul Jalil at Gulshan in the city.
